About the space
The Inside Outside Sculpture Plinth is a unique exhibition space located in Ted Mack Civic Park near Stanton Library and the North Sydney Community Centre, displaying sculptures and installation-based works on a regular basis. Passers-by and visitors to the park can view artworks day and night 7 days per week.
Artworks are viewed from the pathway outside the plinth, the plinth is not staffed. There are no hire fees. Artworks may be available for sale.

Artwork dimensions, weight, hanging and suitability
- space dimensions are 118 x 82 x 82cm. Sculptures up to 110 x 70 x 70cm maximum can be accommodated. For installation based works the entire internal space of 118 x 82 x 82cm can be used.
- a hanging grid is permanently positioned for suspended works
- artworks must weight LESS than 20kg
- the plinth receives full sun, all day and does not have UV protection; works must be constructed with materials robust enough to withstand these conditions including colour fade
- due to the location and access to the plinth, small artworks that require close inspection to appreciate are not suitable
Prospective applicants are encouraged to visit the plinth to ensure artwork is suitable for the space
Exhibition duration, installation and deinstallation
- Exhibits run for a period of no more than 6 weeks
- Artworks must be delivered and collected by the artist at the agreed time
- Unless otherwise agreed, the artist is responsible for installation and deinstallation under guidance from North Sydney Council staff
- Artworks must be stable
- Holes, marks or changes to the space are not permitted, including adhesives such as mounting squares and sticky tape.
Inside Outside Sculpture Plinth objectives:
- provide a diverse and engaging annual exhibition program that includes a mix of Council run exhibitions, local artists and art groups, visiting and out-of-area artist exhibitions
- ensure exhibitions are high quality and presented professionally per the selection criteria, exhibition guidelines, and conditions of use
- support and promote artists, arts groups and curators who are working across a range of media and are able to contribute to the unique cultural identity of the visual arts in North Sydney
- provide opportunities for the North Sydney community and its visitors to engage with contemporary art in the area
- provide opportunity for artists to sell their work.

Applications to exhibit
Applications to exhibit work in the sculpture plinth are accepted year-round. Applications are reviewed by a selection panel and assessed according to:
- the quality of the application and artistic merit
- originality
- suitability to the exhibition space
- contribution to a diverse calendar of exhibitions
- artist or community group’s connection to the North Sydney area
Before applying
- read information about the space and exhibition guidelines
- artists are strongly encouraged to visit the space to assess suitability of the work to the space.
How to apply
Email proposals to artsandculture@northsydney.nsw.gov.au. Include the following in one PDF document:
- an exhibition proposal (up to 500 words) outlining an introduction of the artists or community group involved, a description of artworks, materials used and themes explored
- up to two images of artworks to be exhibited. If the artwork is in progress or proposal for a new work, please supply images of work in progress, maquettes, diagrams or images of similar work
- one (1) page Artist CV of each artist exhibiting including exhibition history
