Road closures and Special Event Clearways will be in place in North Sydney, Blues Point, Lavender Bay, Kirribilli and Cremorne Point from Monday 30 December to early Wednesday 1 January 2025 for New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Up to 30,000 patrons are expected to view the Sydney Harbour fireworks from three un-ticketed, managed access, vantage points in Blues Point Reserve, Lavender Bay Parklands, and Bradfield Park.
Sydney’s New Year’s Eve fireworks shows will take place at 9pm and 12 midnight on Sydney Harbour.
Roads in the vicinity of North Sydney will begin closing at 7pm Monday 30 December 2024 and will remain closed until 3am Wednesday 1 January 2025. Police may restrict vehicle access along closed roads, including for residents and businesses.
Private and commercial residents located within road closures are asked to arrange food and other deliveries in advance, before road closure times.
Special Event Clearways will be in place between 6pm Monday 30 December 2024 and 3am Wednesday 1 January 2025. Motorists are advised to check signs before parking as vehicles in Special Event Clearways will be towed and fines apply. Holders of resident parking schemes and disability parking permits are not exempt from Special Event Clearways and towing.
Patrons attending New Year’s Eve are advised to use public transport and plan their travel in advance. Additional services will be in operation. The closest transport hub is North Sydney train station and Victoria Cross Metro station. Patrons are advised the travel route they take to New Year’s Eve celebrations may be different to the travel route they take to depart due to crowd management arrangements.

Sydney Trains
North Sydney train station is the closest Sydney Trains station to North Sydney Council vantage points. Pedestrian access to North Sydney Station from the NYE vantage points is via Blues Point Road, Middlemiss Street, Pacific Highway and Blue Street.
Sydney Trains will run an enhanced New Years Eve event timetable. Specific timetable uplift to be confirmed.
Note: Due to the addition of Victoria Cross Metro station, patrons exiting the area after the 9pm and midnight fireworks are encouraged to use North Sydney train station to travel in the southbound, Sydney CBD direction for connecting services.
Metro
Victoria Cross station is the closest Metro Train station to North Sydney Council vantage points. Pedestrian access to Victoria Cross Station is via Blues Point Road and Miller Street. Please note, patrons will be directed to Denison Street when exiting Victoria Cross Station between 8pm and 3am.
Metro will operate a 4-minute frequency.
Note: Due to the addition of Victoria Cross Metro station, patrons exiting the area after the 9pm and midnight fireworks are encouraged to use Victoria Cross Metro station to travel in the Chatswood and Tallawong direction.
Buses
As a result of road closures, bus services in the North Sydney area will be limited and following diversions. Patrons are encouraged to plan ahead.
From 3pm on 31 December, some services to and from the Northern Beaches will terminate and depart in Berry Street, North Sydney. Some services from the north-west will operate to and from Miller Street near McLaren Street, North Sydney.
Between 11pm 31 December and 1.30am 1 January, services will not operate across the Sydney Harbour Bridge and will instead terminate and depart from alternative stations on the Sydney Trains and Metro network.

Ferries
Around many wharves, roads are closed, no glass is permitted and alcohol-free zones apply. The following wharf restrictions and closures will be in place:
- Beulah Street is closed for maintenance.
- Cremorne Point closes 5.15pm 31 December.
- Jeffrey Street closes 8pm 30 December.
- McMahons Point closes 10am 31 December.
- Milsons Point closes 3pm 31 December
All wharves remain closed until 1am on 1 January 2025.
Taxi and Rideshare
There are no temporary taxi ranks or rideshare pick up or drop off locations provided during road closure times.
Taxis and rideshare operators will not have access inside road closures. Patrons are encouraged to plan ahead before travelling to and from New Years Eve vantage points.
