Andrew Redfern will talk about the life of Dr. William Redfern (1774-1833), the convict who has a suburb named after him.
This session, delivered by a descendant, Andrew Redfern, details the doctor’s riches to rags and back again story against the backdrop of early colonial Australia.
Andrew's passion for history began in high school, with a particular fascination with Colonial Australia. This interest led him to explore his own family history, where he has unearthed some wonderful ancestors including murderers, asylum inmates and courageous women.
Leveraging his professional expertise in education and technology, Andrew explores innovative ways to preserve history and he frequently employs contemporary mediums such as video and multimedia to share his research and family history stories.
In the past two years, Andrew has developed a keen interest in the potential of artificial intelligence and machine learning to assist family historians. He is now a regular presenter on the topic of AI and technology for family historians, both across Australia and internationally.
