Join us for April's discussion on author Sue William's newest novel that is based on the live of the third governor of NSW, Philip Gidley King.
Topic: The Governor, his Wife and his Mistress
This historical fiction by Sue Williams is a page-turning narrative that gives voice to the compelling lives and experiences of two forgotten women of early colonial Australia.
It's about the third governor of NSW, Philip Gidley King, who sailed with the First Fleet to the new colony. When he arrived, he was sent out to Norfolk Island to create a second major colony and given his pick of the convict women to look after him.
He chose one to be his housekeeper, but two years, and two sons, later, he set out back to England to provide a report on Sydney and Norfolk. His convict mistress Ann Inett begged him to return to her and their children, and he pledged that he would.
After a year and a half, he stayed true to his word – but brought back with him a shocking secret that would cut her to the core and change all their lives forevermore.
