About the garden

  • History

This unique, greatly loved garden is now internationally famous. Wendy Whiteley is an artist in her own right; and wife, model and muse of Australia's eminent artist, Brett Whiteley. When Brett died in 1992, Wendy began creating her garden like a giant living painting, on derelict railways land in front of their home. What Wendy began as a huge guerilla garden was safeguarded in October 2015, when North Sydney Council was granted a 30+30 year lease of Wendy's Secret Garden by the NSW Government.
