Tell the State Government: Sydney Harbour is not a junkyard

Disused and decaying boats and jetties may be polluting our water and making it unsafe for recreation. Sign the petition to clean them up.

In Berrys Bay in Waverton, as well as other bays and coves from Parramatta to Manly, disused boats are being dumped and failing jetties are being left to decay and pollute our harbour.

The Save Our Sydney Harbour campaign, supported by Clean Up Australia, is petitioning Transport for NSW to remove or repair them.

Local eco warrior Mary Curran is representing the northern side of the harbour in the coalition, which is rallying harbourside communities to urge the State Government to take action.

The campaigners warn that the junk is leaching pollutants into the water, making it unsafe for swimmers, kayakers and other recreational users of the harbour, as well as for marine wildlife.

“Sydney Harbour belongs to us all and is an international icon,” says Mary. “It should not be a haven for hoarders.”

Every signaure counts. More than 1,000 people have already signed, but the group needs 20,000 signatures for the petition to be debated in state parliament.
