Council has endorsed a submission to the State Government on its Crows Nest Transport Oriented Development rezoning proposal.
North Sydney Council will call on the State Government to amend its plans for the rezoning of Crows Nest to consider the area’s economic future and deliver community infrastructure that will support the planned growth of our population.
At its meeting last night, Council endorsed a submission to the State Government on the Crows Nest Transport Oriented Development (TOD) rezoning proposal.
The submission acknowledges the proposal’s potential to deliver needed housing, supporting well designed development and contributions to affordable housing.
However, it raises concerns about the impact of the proposal on the North Sydney community. For example, rezoning the precinct to be primarily residential could affect the function of the St Leonards and Crows Nest area as a commercial centre, including its capacity for employment. The submission also stresses the lack of transparent funding mechanisms and strategies to support the population growth with open space, social infrastructure and recreation facilities.
Council will submit its report to the NSW Department of Planning later this week.
Council is encouraging individuals and groups from the local community to also provide feedback on the proposal directly to the State Government. Submissions close at 5pm, this Friday 30 August.
