Immerse yourself in the nature and history of the Coal Loader

The Coal Loader’s augmented reality app has had a major upgrade and is now bigger, better and more reliable.

A newly relaunched augmented reality app lets you explore the grounds of The Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability while watching and learning about local wildlife and seeing parts of its industrial past in action.

The app lets you explore the Coal Loader and learn about its nature, history and sustainability features with immersive augmented reality. Using a smartphone or tablet, simply scan the QR codes located across the site to enjoy the three different trails and experience the site coming to life.

North Sydney Mayor Zoë Baker said:

“The app is an engaging, amazing educational resource for anyone who wants to learn about the fascinating history or environment of the Coal Loader. Come down this spring, explore the site and use the app to discover more about the local native animals who live alongside us, and how the Coal Loader has changed and evolved over time.”

You can watch a tree snake wind its way up a tree, see the original hopper carts transport coal onto the wharf, and check out a powerful owl surveying the view from the treetops. The app also includes information about the First Nations history of the site researched and written by Karen Smith, Education Officer at the Aboriginal Heritage Office.

You can even access the app offsite – so you can learn at school, home or anywhere.
