The new pedestrian bridge connecting North Sydney and Neutral Bay will be open from Friday.
Transport for NSW has confirmed that pedestrians and cyclists will be able to use the bridge from this Friday 20 December (note: this date has been updated from Tuesday 17 December). The bridge connects Alfred Street North, Neutral Bay and Ridge Street, North Sydney, over the Warringah Freeway.
The upgraded bridge replaces the existing bridge and will:
- include eastbound and westbound shared pedestrian footpath and bicycle lanes, for safer walking and cycling journeys
- improve accessibility, including a new shared path ramp
- feature a newly designed Ridge Street lookout with views of the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge
Transport for NSW is still working on the second stage, new lift access from Alfred Street North, which will be open from mid-2025. Pedestrians and cyclists can use the new shared access ramp and temporary scaffold ramp from Alfred Street North during this time.
Work is also ongoing on design elements for the new bridge and lookout area like landscaping, lighting and finishing work, but the bridge is open for use while this work is finalised.
The existing bridge will be demolished over the 2024/25 holiday period.
